KU-Galcier (Baylor) Bachelor in Professional Hospitality (BPH) Program is the joint program of Kathmandu University and Glacier Educational Foundation (a holding company of Baylor International Academy, Banepa) to offer the cutting edge domain course recently developed by Kathmandu University intending to deliver world-class higher education in Hospitality Management and Tourism based on globally recognized quality, skills and competency at an affordable cost with subtle differences in internship modality than the previous programs in the field of Hospitality Management (HM).
Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) has already offered the BPH course as collaborative program in collaboration with the Global Academy of Tourism and Hospitality Education (GATE) with 30 numbers of student intake from 2021 in Kathmandu. KU-Glacier BPH program is the same course that is being offered to another 30 numbers of students with the set forth objective of Making Hospitality and Tourism education accessible to students especially from Kavre and other parts of the country from 2022 intake.
This course has been offered as KU-Glacier joint program in Banepa mainly motivated with following objectives.
In accordance with KU, the main objective behind offering BPH at BIA in Banepa is to address the urgent need to promote and deliver world-class higher education in hospitality management and tourism with special focus to the students from or the working personnel who are looking forward to receiving the higher education degree still while they are working at Kavre district or nearby cities.
● To provide aspirant students with an opportunity to have a quality education based on practical basis for their higher education degree at their home town without need to immigrate to other cities or countries.
● To equip future entrepreneurs of the hospitality industries with adequate and relevant knowledge based on cutting edge technology of the hospitality industry.
● To explore opportunities lies in the hospitality industries available in Kavre and neighboring districts in favor of the students through means of internship and lab work.
Hospitality Management is one of the highly job oriented fields which covers a wide range of services including food, accommodation and catering. With globalization more and more hospitality industries like hotels, resorts, fast food chains, restaurants and bars, etc., are expanding their business locally and abroad and that has ultimately created a huge demand for hospitality management professionals. After completion of the core curriculum with necessary laboratory based works and supervised internship, graduates of this BPH program will be prepared to seek different opportunities in the related field. As hospitality is the fastest growing industry not only in the context of Nepal but globally, students with bachelor level degree of BPH with ample experience accumulated through internship based learning environment in hand will be provided with a wide range of choices after graduation.
Distinctiveness About the Program
This program is mainly based on the foundation of cutting edge model that has been widely practiced recently in practical based education field like Hospitality and Management. Distinctiveness of the program mainly lies on the model of “Learning by Doing” and “Learning by Earning“. The delivery of the curriculum of this program has been designed on such a way that 60% of total credit hours is covered by practical based classes including paid internship inside the country and abroad.
